چکیده

PURPOSE To study the parameters of the 1331 fat saturation pulse (saturation pulse flip angle (SPFA) and interpulse delay (tau)) in order to identify values that provide optimal vessel visibility. METHODS Carotid bifurcations of three healthy subjects were studied. RESULTS The optimal values for the SPFA and tau were 60 degrees (7.5 degrees, -22.5 degrees, 22.5 degrees, -7.5 degrees) and 2.0-3.0 msec, respectively. At these values there was a 1.56-fold increase (SD = +/- .12, P less than .01) in the contrast-to-noise ratio between the left internal carotid artery and fat compared to the study without fat saturation. A 3.0-fold increase was noted for the smaller left occipital artery. Additionally, there was no statistically significant reduction in the vessel-muscle contrast-to-noise ratio nor in the absolute vessel signal-to-noise ratio at these values. CONCLUSION Implementation of fat saturation into carotid MR angiography markedly improves visualization of vascular anatomy without increasing imaging time.

Cerebral MR angiography with multiple overlapping thin slab acquisition. Part I. Quantitative analysis of vessel visibility.

Multiple overlapping thin slab acquisition (MOTSA) is a novel time-of-flight magnetic resonance (MR) angiography technique that combines many of the advantages of multiple-section two-dimensional and direct three-dimensional volume methods. To rigorously evaluate the vascular detail that can be obtained with MOTSA MR angiography, the authors have quantified the frequency of visibility of intrac...

TOF-MRA using multi-oblique-stack acquisition (MOSA).

PURPOSE To alleviate the intrinsic limitation of current time-of-flight magnetic resonance angiography (TOF-MRA) techniques, which are insensitive to in-plane blood flow due to the flow saturation effect. MATERIALS AND METHODS A multi-oblique-stack acquisition (MOSA) technique was proposed in this study to tackle this TOF problem by acquiring two or more TOF image stacks bearing different ori...

Effective Application of Multiple Overlapping Thin-Slab Acquisition and Magnetization Transfer Contrast Pulse to Compatible Dual-Echo Arteriovenography (CODEA)

Introduction A newly introduced compatible dual-echo arteriovenography (CODEA) is a technique for simultaneous acquisition of time-of-flight (TOF) MR angiogram (MRA) and blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) MR venogram (MRV). The technique improved the previous dual-echo MRA/MRV technique (1), by maximally separating the K-space center regions for the two echoes achieved through an echo-spe...

Free-breathing renal MR angiography with steady-state free-precession (SSFP) and slab-selective spin inversion: initial results.

BACKGROUND The aim of our study was the investigation of a novel navigator-gated three-dimensional (3D) steady-state free-precession (SSFP) sequence for free-breathing renal magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) without contrast medium, and to examine the advantage of an additional inversion prepulse for improved contrast. METHODS Eight healthy volunteers (mean age 29 years) and eight patients...

Accelerated Time-SLIP Cerebral MR Angiography by Use of Dual Inversion Pulse for Background Suppression

Introduction Time-Spatial Labeling Inversion Pulse (time-SLIP) which is a technique of magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) based on arterial spin labeling (ASL) are utilized in various situations [1]. However, to visualize cerebral angiograms, the background signal cannot suppress enough in the conventional time-SLIP technique because of longer T1 and T2 value of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The...
